Western Pennsylvania is no stranger to rain. According to US Climate Data, our region receives an average of nearly 35 inches of rain every year. Historically, the way our cities dealt with rain water was to simply move it downstream. Not only does this have a negative impact on water quality and potentially devastating consequences for downstream communities, it is a lost opportunity to save money and the natural environment.
To solve this challenge, we have teamed with ARTEZ (the Allegheny River Town Enterprise Zone community development agency), Stormworks, and SEED Aquaponics. Together, we will work to educate residents on the use of best management practices for stormwater and install rain barrels on municipal and residential properties.
